Furnace Installation in Coeur d'Alene

When a furnace has reached the end of sensible repair, we size and install a new one that suits your home, then start it up and show you how it runs. Estimates are free on installations, and you see every cost in writing ahead of any work.

A new furnace, only when it truly makes sense

We look at repair first. A furnace with a worn igniter, a tired inducer motor or a faulty control board often has good years left, and we say so plainly. A new unit earns its place when the heat exchanger has cracked, when one fix follows another on an aging furnace, or when the next repair would cost a real fraction of new equipment.

If we do suggest a new furnace, you see what we saw: photos, readings and the reasoning behind them. Long North Idaho winters ask a lot of heating equipment, so we choose units for steady, even heat and sound construction, not the largest figure on the spec sheet.

Some homes are better served by a heat pump or a dual-fuel pairing. If yours might be, we bring it up during the visit and leave the decision with you.

What your furnace installation covers

  1. 01

    Sizing from a load calculation

We work out the heat your home actually needs from its square footage, insulation, windows and layout. Too large a furnace cycles on and off and wears early. Too small and it runs without rest on the coldest nights.

  2. 02

    Models compared side by side

Single-stage, two-stage and variable-speed furnaces differ in comfort, sound and running cost. We lay those differences out so the choice is yours.

  3. 03

    Removing the old furnace

Gas and power are shut off and safely disconnected, then the old unit comes out. We cover floors along the route and haul the old equipment away.

  4. 04

    Venting, gas and wiring

A high-efficiency furnace vents through PVC pipe and makes condensate that needs a proper drain line. We set both, leak-test every gas fitting, and wire the furnace and thermostat to spec.

  5. 05

    Permit on file

We handle the mechanical permit and schedule the inspector's visit, so the installation is recorded and meets code.

  6. 06

    Startup readings and handover

At startup we check gas pressure, temperature rise and combustion. You learn where the filter goes, how the thermostat is set and what normal running sounds like.

When a new furnace starts to make sense

  • Heat exchanger damage

A crack can let combustion gases reach the air your home breathes. Fixing one is seldom worth the money, and it is the plainest reason to install a new unit.

  • One repair after another

A single repair is ordinary. Three or four over a couple of winters on an older furnace tends to signal more ahead.

  • Cold rooms that stay cold

When certain rooms never warm up, even with a fresh filter and a thermostat that works, the furnace may be undersized or slowly losing output.

  • Gas bills creeping up

An older, lower-efficiency furnace burns more fuel for the same warmth. A steady climb in winter bills is worth looking into.

  • Soot, yellow flames or strange odors

These are combustion warnings. Have the furnace looked at soon, and if you ever suspect carbon monoxide, get everyone outside and call 911 first.

From first visit to first warm night

  1. 1

    A visit to your home

We look over the furnace you have, measure the space and ask how your home heats now. Estimates are free on installations and replacements.

  2. 2

    Your quote in writing

You receive a written quote before any work begins, covering equipment, labor and the permit. Nothing is added unless you agree to it.

  3. 3

    Installation day

Most jobs wrap up in one day. Floors stay covered, the work area stays orderly, and if something unexpected turns up, we stop and show you.

  4. 4

    Testing and handover

We run full heating cycles, confirm the safety controls respond as they should, and clear away the old unit and every scrap. Then we walk you through the new furnace.

What moves the price of a new furnace

We price each job after seeing the furnace, the space around it and how it connects to your home. Your quote lists each part of the work on its own line, so nothing hides in a lump sum.

Capacity and efficiency rating
Higher output and higher AFUE ratings cost more at the start. The better efficiency can trim gas bills over the years you own it.
Staging and blower
Two-stage and variable-speed models run quieter and hold a steadier temperature. They also cost more than single-stage furnaces.
Venting and access
Going from a standard-efficiency furnace to a high-efficiency one can mean new PVC vent pipe and a condensate drain. Cramped attics and crawlspaces take more labor.
Gas line and electrical updates
An older shutoff valve, gas line or circuit may need bringing up to current code so the new furnace can run on it.
Permit and season
Permit fees are part of every quote. During a deep cold snap the schedule fills, so planning in early fall leaves you more options.

Furnace installation questions

How do you decide between repair and a new furnace?

First we pin down the exact fault. If fixing it makes sense for the furnace's age and condition, that is what we recommend. When the heat exchanger has failed or the list of repairs keeps growing, we show you the evidence and explain why new equipment is the better use of your money.

How long does installation take?

A like-for-like swap usually takes one day. A move to high efficiency with new venting, or a furnace tucked into a tight space, can run longer. Your quote states the expected timeline.

Will my home be without heat for long?

Only while the old furnace is out and the new one is going in, normally part of one day. In bitter weather we stage the work to keep that gap as short as we can.

Is a heat pump worth considering instead?

For some homes, yes, often as a dual-fuel setup with a gas furnace backing it up on the coldest nights. We offer help claiming Avista rebates and federal tax credits on heat pumps. Our Heat Pumps page covers the basics, and we can compare both options during your estimate.

What if my old furnace quits while I wait for the install?

Emergency calls reach us at any hour, day or night, and we charge no emergency or after-hours fees for that visit. In many cases we can keep an aging furnace running safely until the new one goes in.
